Fear Has Big Eyes / The Monster in the Dark is a thrilling yet educational book that helps children understand how to cope with fear and find courage in difficult moments. The main character, Theo, has to spend an evening without his parents while a fierce storm rages outside. As darkness falls, he begins to feel frightened by strange sounds coming from the basement – as if scary monsters were lurking there. 

This book shows children how to face their fears and teaches them never to lose hope or the strength to confront what scares them. 
This "scary story" is a great way to help children understand that fear is a natural part of life – but one that can be faced with bravery and resilience. The story is full of suspense, but also of hope and a positive message that inspires courage and confidence. 

As a companion to the Scary Stories book, methodically developed activity sheets were created in cooperation with a psychologist. Their purpose is to guide teachers or parents toward creative ways to engage young readers, encouraging prediction, comprehension, co-creation of the text, as well as visual storytelling.
